36 weeks pregnant: Fast facts

Your baby weighs almost 6 lbs and is more than 18 1/2 inches long – about the length of a head of romaine lettuce.

Your baby is shedding downy body hair, as well as the waxy vernix caseosa, which protects skin from pickling in amniotic fluid.

Your ballooning uterus is crowding your internal organs. If you have to pee even more often now, that's why!

Have you been screened for GBS (group B strep)? It's usually harmless in adults but can cause serious complications if passed to a baby during birth. If you test positive, you'll start taking antibiotics as soon as your labor begins or your water breaks, whichever comes first.

How long are couples usually together before having a child? Most moms in a our site poll said 3 to 4 years, while 14% said less than a year.

Tip: Wash new clothes, blankets, and bedding you'll use for your newborn with baby-safe detergent to remove any irritants in the fabrics.
