How much time does your child spend watching TV, playing video games, and fiddling with your phone? Hear parents' rules for screen time.
Well, my rules for screen time are say half an hour to an hour a day maximum.
That’s one of my strictest rules in the house. TV time is on the weekends only. Pretty much during the week, I don’t have TV whatsoever.
We do allow her to use the computer for a certain number—amount of time per day. And then we allow her to watch a certain number of episodes of a show of her choosing.
Definitely no screen time whatsoever during week day. So, maybe on a weekend I will allow them to watch a little movie or play a little game. Three to four hour max.
All my kids they all get two hours activity time a day. So, they get to pick and choose how they want to use that activity time. They can either be reading, watching TV, on the computer. After that, it’s just homework, read, and do your chores, dinner, get ready—get your stuff ready for the next day and go to bed. So.
No. We don’t have any rules for screen time. It’s pretty liberal in our house. I mean both my wife and I really like to watch TV.
We try to limit screen time to about an hour a day whether it’s on the phone or whether it’s the television.
She has to get everything done first before she can have any of the screen time or any TV or iPod, iTouch time.
If I’m trying to do something, I’ll let them watch a show. But generally I try to steer them towards doing coloring or doing a craft or getting them started on something because I find they just zone out when they watch TV. And it makes them more difficult to deal with when you take them off the TV.
